Telluride is the ultimate mountain destination, especially for those with kids! Need some recommendations for kid-friendly activities to do while you’re there? Here are our top favorite activities.
Visit Telluride Town Park
Telluride Town Park is an outdoor lover’s paradise and the perfect place to visit with your family. During the summer months, it offers a public outdoor pool, mixed-use tennis/pickleball courts, athletic fields, sand volleyball, a skate park, basketball courts, a fishing pond, a toddler playground, and the Imagination Station. The Imagination Station is perfect for kids of all ages who love swings, slides, rope climbs, bridges, ad tunnels.
No matter what age your kids are, they’ll love hanging out at the park. Visit the playground, swim in the public pool, or buy some food and have a picnic on the field. There are tons to do just at this park!
Tour the Telluride Historical Museum
Taking a vacation with your family during the summer is great, but having your kids learn a little something during it? That’s even better.
Telluride has a rich and fascinating history that is captured at the Telluride Historical Museum. Located in a restored 1896 miner’s hospital, the museum delves into the life of the settlers and Telluride’s past as a mining community. The museum has 10 rooms, each with its own theme and hands-on, interactive displays everyone will love. Visiting the museum is one of the best kid-friendly activities to get some learning while also taking a break from the heat of summer.
Take a Family Hike
Colorado is known for its natural beauty. Take advantage of the beautiful scenery and fresh air with a family hike. Getting your kids moving with a memorable and easy hike through some of the beautiful trails in Telluride will be a blast.
If you need some trail recommendations, we recommend:
- Bear Creek Trail – This trail is 5 miles round-trip but is the perfect hike with kids as it’s only moderately steep, and there’s a reward at the end: a big, beautiful waterfall!
- River Trail – This trail runs 3 miles out to Society Turn, but the 1 mile through town is the perfect mini hike for those with little ones or those who are looking to warm up their legs for future hiking adventures. This is flat and winds along the San Miguel River, with many great spots to stop and take a snack break or skip rocks.
- Keystone Gorge Trail – This 2.5-mile trail is exciting for little ones as there are plenty of tall pine trees, mining artifacts, and roaring rapids of the San Miguel River to keep them intrigued.
If you’re looking for kid-friendly hikes just outside of Telluride, we have a few recommendations for hikes in Ouray you don’t want to miss.
